“In Adonai’s hand there is a cup of wine, foaming, richly spiced; When he pours it out, all the wicked of the earth will drain it, drinking it to the dregs.” (Rev.14:10)
The foaming cup of God’s wrath is a vivid description that conjures up terrifying images of judgment amid His absolute unswerving righteousness and justice. Paradoxically, it also powerfully illustrates His merciful character who provides us with new beginnings and second chances for those who choose life rather than death.
Even God’s patient forbearance, higher than we can ever imagine and far exceeding what we deserve, has a ‘red line,’ the foaming cup overflowing with devastating consequences for those who cross its boundary. We saw an example of this in last weeks Torah portion concerning Pharaoh. (Ex.10:1-13)
The Hebrew word for mercy is ‘rakhamim’ and it’s connected to the word ‘rekhem’ meaning womb, conveying the compassion of a mother for her offspring. Even so was Yeshua’s grief over Israel shortly before His crucifixion: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who murders the prophets and stones [to death] those [messengers] who are sent to her [by God]! How often I wanted to gather your children together [around Me], as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.” (Matt. 23:37)
We are living in perilous times. Right now the SA government has made its intentions clear, representing the political wing of Hamas with full support of its genocidal intentions towards Israel and World Jewry. What was unthinkable has morphed into an ugly reality. There is no middle ground left within this nightmare spectre. We must choose whose side we are on.
Isaiah provided a stark warning 2500 years ago: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Isa.5:20) Such are the days we are now living in. Many who claim to be Christians are cursing Israel and the Jewish people, earnestly calling with clenched fists for her entire destruction. They have bought into an evil narrative embroiled in demonic lies and deceptions that originate from the pit of hell. An anti-Christ vitriolic hatred of the Jewish people has revealed its ugly face once again and fast gathering momentum.
I urge you with much prayer and weeping to stand steadfast immovable against the flow of Jew hatred and violent anti-Semitism permeating this land and this planet.
“Therefore, take up the full armour of God, so that you may be able to resist when the times are evil, and after you have done everything, to stand firm.” (Eph 6:13)
